Omar Velázquez

  • Omar Velázquez’s work references his home of Puerto Rico through vibrant landscapes that blend memories, dreams, and scenes from his walks and drives through the island's countryside. Against a Western aesthetic emerge surrealist, ominous elements, linking the objectification of Puerto Rico’s natural world to its colonial history. At first exploring conventions of Western painting, Velázquez then inserts into these artistic traditions the personal and cultural narrative of diaspora.
