Josh Reames’s paintings mimic the way information is consumed in the digital age, where symbols, text, and imagery—pulled from bumper stickers, neon signs, and graphic design—exist in a non-hierarchical field. By stripping these elements of their original context and giving them equal weight, he neutralizes their meaning, turning familiar references into a flattened visual language. His use of trompe l’oeil, action painting, and screen printing reinforces this effect, collapsing disparate signs into a composition that reflects both the overload of modern communication and the erosion of fixed meaning.
