Tony Lewis
-
Tony Lewis pushes, smudges, and rubs graphite powder, turning abstraction’s semiotic tools towards a study of power, race, and labor. Taking words and imagery from poetry, books, political speeches and more, Lewis transforms them into material, which he then interrupts, rearranges, and emphasizes, moulding them into new thought-forms. Lewis’ visually-focused approach to destabilizing language reaffirms its precariousness as well as its potential.
