For Paula Crown, mark-making—in addition to the artistic creation—both mimics and embodies the generation and manifestation of thought. These thoughts—open, not decided, and often surrounding climate change, the pandemic, and other current issues—take on diverse forms, from installations to painting to photography. Suddenly, Crown’s disparate Solo cups, map fragments, and everyday materials become vehicles of communication, charged with a sentient poignancy that speaks to contemporary life.
