Lola Gil employs layering to manufacture unreal spaces, where residuals of the artist’s play with perspective, reflection, and distortion convey an eerie presence — of which the viewer is unsure. Warped imagery and strange objects are conflated, irrationally, on separate planes. Their dysfunction refines the viewer’s eye in ways that lay bare tropes of the suburban and idealized American imagery. The artist’s “Narrative Escapism” strives to describe, through alienation, something central to human connection.
