EXPO Chicago 2025

24 - 27 April 2025
  • The SECRIST | BEACH booth at EXPO 2025 will be featuring two related curated presentations, the first of which will be shown in conjunction with the current exhibition, Master Class: Inside the Last American Museum School with SAIC Painting Alumni.

Master Class dives into the close connection between the museum and students' studies, asking Painting and Drawing graduates from 2000 - 2025 to select a work of their own and a piece from the museum collection that served as an initial inspiration from their time at the school.

The second portion of Booth 104 will reflect on the inaugural year at 1801 W Hubbard Street. This time last year, during EXPO 2024, SECRIST | BEACH opened the first dual exhibition in the new 10,000 square foot West Town space, debuting a three-pronged approach to exhibitions. Playing off of the double bow-trusses, on one side of the space is a Solo and on the other a Survey exhibitionBisecting the two is a Salon, an installation that varies to respond to each dual exhibition and a metaphorical vehicle for community-building and conversation among art.

  • First featured in SECRIST | BEACH’s booth at EXPO Chicago in 2024, and later participating in MAKING TIMEthe 2024 summer group exhibition with an in-situ project, Surdell’s fiber practice has been a highlight of our new programming.

On large-scale looms, Jacqueline Surdell employs the full force of her body, weaving sculptural topographies that physically and metaphorically investigate material, space, and time. Her exploration of landscape—particularly the interaction between the built and natural worlds—draws on familial Dutch and Midwestern narratives as it does Catholic creations of space, both physical, spiritual, and through painting. Through this lens, she considers the ontological nature of ritual, myth, the sacred, the monumental, and the sublime, questioning where she, and by extension, the body are situated within these structures.

Jeanne Gang's work was featured in exhibition MANIFEST, a survey of artworks and studies by artists and architects exploring themes of light, color and space.

Architect Jeanne Gang is the founding partner of Studio Gang. Drawing insight from ecological systems, her practice merges art and science to create places that strengthen relationships among people, their communities, and the environment. Gang’s ideas evolve from nature’s influence on humanity, but equally aspire to conjure empathy for the natural world around us.
